Gay protests ignored as balloon boy/interracial marriage license denial gains coverage.

CNN is doing anything and everything possible to get attention these days, their wall to wall coverage of the balloon boy and their online front page coverage of the interracial couple denied license in Louisiana is just an example of how the media sometimes are ratings oriented. The Gay marriage protest drew thousand of protesters to Washington D.C but was largely ignored by virtually all the media outlets; however the balloon boy story, which is turning out to be a hoax was given wall to wall coverage. Virtually all the Media gave coverage to the story, none wanted to be left behind, and they followed the balloon and provided minute by minute coverage of the balloon, the boy and his family. Another news that caught my eye was the marriage license that was denied to an interracial couple in Louisiana, apparently the media find it important to report on one Justice of peace’s opinion on interracial marriage.I Personally do not waste my time on people like that and also, I think the story is not newsworthy simply because there are many Justice of peace out there and the couple could have simply seek out someone that will grant them a license instead of making a big deal out of it.
I am aware that Gay rights are not popular among many Americans, but why is the media blatantly ignoring them? How can people get educated on issues important to the gay community if the media continue to act as if they’re a fringe group that does not deserve any attention? Even though I am a Liberal, I do not like the idea of gays in the society but I will confess that I do not know any gay person and I am not well educated on their issues…..I grew up in a society that you probably get killed if you’re gay and I neither knew the meaning of gay nor did I know that humans could be homosexual till I was about 17 years old here in the United States. I for one would like to watch the gay protests and understand what the fuss is all about but I could not find any outlet willing to give them coverage. I find myself guilty of following the balloon boy story because I find the story fascinating and almost missed class to follow the story….All in all, I think the media continues to do a disservice to people by jumping on news that are catchy but unworthy while ignoring news that maybe helpful but unpopular.
